In yet another reason why Central Asian nations are some of my most favoritist of states, Kazakhstan has launched a national contest to create an image of a national superhero who will be named after its capital, Astana. Ria Novosti reports that a total of 123 people will take part in the contest, which will be held from July 1-3, during an action movie festival. Just the fact that Astana has an action movie festival is so awesome, but even better is the fact that the government is sponsoring a contest to add a Kazakh member to the likes of Batman, Spiderman, Captain America and my personal favorite Matter Eater Lad (google it morons). The participant has to successfully invent the superhero’s biography, costume and appearance. Organizers emphasize that the superhero should become “a symbol of the young, energetic and rapidly developing capital of Kazakhstan”. Sasha Baron Cohen is ripping off his dictator beard as we speak and breaking out the monokini as he flies off to Kazakhstan in 3…2…1.
